Sitting in the garden at my uncles place earlier in the summer we were talking about how we could do something different for Megan and Lee’s wedding shoot. Freed from the constrictions of creating the image on the day of the wedding we could think about doing something braver, still, I never thought we’d persuade my little sister to do this. Lee (Megan’s husband, and my brother in law) had the idea, I guess of few of David’s strong Belgian lagers can aid the creative process! These two love the ocean, living close to it, and spending many of their free weekends on it, so it was obviously fitting to get them on it for their wedding shoot.

We needed conditions to be right for this one, and they were. The sea was calm as it could be, wind was around 7mph so wasn’t going to be a problem, and the lighting was perfect – the last golden, september rays across Weymouth Bay. The hard bit – keeping them both on their boards long enough to get the shot, Lee wasn’t going to be a problem, but Megan would find it difficult because of the weight of her wedding dress. We had talked about me buying a second hand dress specially for the shoot, but in the end we went with the real one (I promised to pay for the dry cleaning). So to keep her steady we got my father to stand behind and hold the paddle board still, and Lee manoeuvred his board into position next to her. I only took about 15 frames before the light faded, but we got the shot we’d visualised. Here are the behind the scenes images…
