Last month it was a pleasure to come and photograph Emma and James’ big day. They got married at the same church as my parents 30 years previously, (and where my sister will next year), St Lawrence Church which is beautifully situated in the rural surroundings of Upwey. The weather plays a big part in the mood of a a wedding day and these two couldn’t have had it any better – a clear blue sky all day. Sometimes as a photographer you want a slightly cloudier day as the low contrast lighting can be easier to handle. But since I upgraded cameras last year I’ve found the sunniest days no problem to shoot in, and the happier emotions from the guests come through in the pictures. After the ceremony the bride and groom headed up to Kingston Maurward for their reception, always a great location to shoot at – the grounds have infinite photographic potential. We got the couple together for a final portrait after the sun had sunk in the western skies, using lighting to spotlight them against the twilight sky. After that the photography was over, the gentlemen pulled out Cuban Cigars and smoked in the moonlight.
